Regular cleaning of activated carbon filters is key to extending their lifespan. Here are the specific cleaning steps and maintenance recommendations:
Backwashing operation
Close the inlet and outlet valves of the filter and drain the water inside.
Introduce compressed air (pressure 0.1-0.2MPa) for 3-5 minutes to perform air scrubbing, breaking up activated carbon particles and impurities.
Turn on the backwash pump, control the flow rate to 10-15 m/h, and backwash for 5-10 minutes until the drain is clear.
After letting it stand and drain, perform a forward rinse for 2-3 minutes to ensure that any remaining impurities are completely removed.
Before resuming operation, check whether the equipment is functioning properly.
Filter cleaning and replacementRemove the activated carbon filter cartridge and rinse the surface with warm water to remove impurities. You can also soak it in warm water with a neutral detergent to loosen the dirt. After washing, dry thoroughly to avoid high temperatures or direct sunlight that could damage the adsorption performance.
If the filter cartridge becomes severely contaminated or its adsorption capacity decreases, it needs to be replaced with a new filter cartridge in a timely manner. Maintenance and care recommendations
Pretreatment: Install sand filters or bag filters to reduce suspended solids entering the activated carbon layer.
Control operating parameters: flow rate 5-10m/h, water temperature 20-30℃, pH value 6-8.
Regularly test the adsorption capacity of activated carbon, and regenerate or replace it if necessary.
To inhibit microbial growth, sodium hypochlorite or ultraviolet light should be added periodically for sterilization.
Avoid frequent backwashing to prevent loss of activated carbon particles and damage to the pore structure.
By following the steps and maintenance measures above, the service life of activated carbon filters can be effectively extended, ensuring their adsorption effect and water purification capacity.
