How to clean a water softener? It's easy, just follow these steps.
1. Empty the tank Turn off the water inlet with the bypass valve and empty all thesalt and water out of the system.
2. Take out the brine grid from the bottom of the tank and put it aside.
3. Mix 4-8 litres of water with a large amount of washing up liquid and scrub thewhole inside of the tank.
4. Once it is clean, empty out the old soapy water and rinse with clean water to getrid of any remaining bits.
5. After the tank has been cleaned, add about 60 ml of bleach to about 8 litres ofwater. Set the mixture aside to disinfect the tank. This helps to prevent the growthof any harmful organisms on the internal surfaces.
6. Finally rinse out the bleach thoroughly and fill the tank with water and salt asusual. It is best to wait a few hours to allow the salt to dissolve before regeneratingthe tank.
If you have a salt-free tank, it generally does not require frequent cleaning, but it isrecommended to clean it once a year. The cleaning is simply done by closing thewater inlet and draining all the water from the tank.
