Boiling:
Hard water mostly contains calcium bicarbonate. Boiling causes the dissolved minerals in the water to precipitate out. So, as we said, boiling removes calcium and other harmful minerals, resulting in soft water.
Moreover, boiling is a simple and quick way to deal with hard water. Boiling, though, only solves temporary hardness problems and not permanent hardness problems. Permanent hardness contains dissolved calcium sulfate, which cannot be removed by boiling.
Removing Soap Scum Using Hard Water Cleaners:
Harmful minerals in hard water react with chemicals to form scum, also known as lime soap. Soap scum is a white solid mineral that can be found in water fixtures. It is formed due to the positively charged atoms in hard water.
These atoms prevent soap molecules from dissolving, instead, the undissolved soap molecules end up attaching and accumulating on different surfaces.
To combat these problems, you can use a cleaning formula specifically formulated for hard water. This formula contains a solution that counteracts the positive calcium atoms in hard water. This solution makes it easier for the soap to rinse off.
Washing Soda:
Using washing soda is considered one of the best ways to combat water hardness problems, especially for laundry. Washing soda is a chemical containing carbonates that helps soften temporary and permanent hardness in water.
Overall, detergents remove dissolved calcium and magnesium. Removing these harmful minerals from hard water creates soft water.
