What Is The Difference Between Anthracite And Activated Carbon?

Anthracite filter media is used in the filtration process. It removes precipitated substances from solutions. Furthermore, it is chemically treated to make it easier to filter. However, due to its very small pores, it is not very effective at the molecular level. Moreover, these pores are much smaller than most of the molecules that need to be removed. Granular activated carbon (GAC) is made by agglomerating PAC (powdered activated carbon) particles.

Activated carbon (PAC) is created by removing odor-causing chemicals and burning the carbon, which increases the pore size of the carbon particles, making them act like a molecular sponge. Activated carbon can even be processed. Depending on the pore size, this can remove specific compounds while retaining others. Molecules adsorb on the surface of the carbon particles, then diffuse and are absorbed into the pores, ultimately being removed by this porous structure. In this case, no sedimentation is necessary. On the other hand, backwashing cannot remove debris absorbed into the pores. Regeneration is the only way to remove the debris.

Anthracite filter media removes particulate matter from the water stream through adsorption. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Impurities typically do not diffuse into the filter media pores. Likewise, during backwashing, liquid accumulated on the surface is easily removed by the agitation action.
