What Is The Ideal Backwashing Time For A Multi-media Filter?

The backwashing time for multi-media filters needs to be flexibly adjusted based on the backwashing method, water pollution level, and filter media type. The core control principle is "clear effluent (turbidity ≤ 1 NTU) and no filter media loss." The following are time references for common scenarios:

 I. Standard Time Range (Divided by Backwashing Method)

 Single-water backwash (municipal water/clean groundwater)

Total duration : 10-15 minutes

 Combined air-water backwashing (surface water/high turbidity water)

Air washing : 3-5 minutes (intensity 10-15 L/(m²・s)), loosen the filter media;

Water wash : 5-10 minutes (intensity 15-20L/(m²・s)), divided into initial rinse (2 minutes) and main rinse (3-8 minutes);

Total duration : 15-20 minutes.

Chemical cleaning is required (such as acid washing for 30 minutes or alkaline washing for 10 minutes), extending the total time to 30-60 minutes , but excessive rinsing should be avoided to prevent corrosion of the filter media.
