The multimedia filter design for water treatment consists of multiple layers of media with different pore sizes. These layers allow the water to go through them and remove the impurities, resulting in clear, clean and healthy water. The filter is composed of various materials such as gravel, sand, and activated carbon that remove specific impurities and improve taste and odor of the water.

This technology is extensively used in wide range of indusries like medicine industry, in pharmaceutical production, achieving consistent source water quality is critical. At XinKay, our multimedia filters provide a comprehensive yet economic solution for fines-removal down to 5 microns.

Composed of graded anthracite, sand and garnet layers, multimedia filters eliminate the need for multiple cartridge housings. As water percolates downward, contaminants are trapped within a single vessel through mechanical and adsorptive filtration.

The layered composition exploits the different densities of each media. Garnet arrests the largest particles above 2mm, while anthracite adsorbs finer solids and turbidity in the 50-250 micron range within its porous structure. Sub-micron particles below 5 microns are then eliminated by the sand media.

This multi-step filtration process preserves flow rates for continuous operation. Automatic backwashing prevents media fluidization and channeling during regeneration without chemical cleaning.

Installed on a compact skid, multimedia filters integrate quickly into any water system with PLC instrumentation. Real-time transmission of filtrate quality and pressure enables remote monitoring of performance.

Working Principle

The most practical, cheapest and basic type of water filtration is a carbon filter to clean water. Carbon filters have a multitude of applications including filtering drinking water and keeping a fish aquarium's water from getting murky. While it can remove some particles that cloud the water, reduce nasty chlorine residue and can even help to reduce odors, thus improving the general taste and clarity of water, it does have its limitations when it comes to microbe and bacterial removal.
