1. Introduction to the working principle of carbon steel multi-media filter Carbon steel multi-media filters, as the name suggests, are mechanical filters filled with two or more filter media. They are commonly used in the water treatment industry. They can be two-, three-, or four-media, but the most common are two-layer filters, typically consisting of anthracite and quartz sand, or activated carbon and quartz sand. Combinations such as manganese sand and quartz sand can also be used depending on the water quality requirements.

 

2. Instructions for selecting fillers for multi-media filters Common filter media include anthracite, ceramsite, quartz sand, and activated carbon. Quartz sand boasts high density, small particles, and a low price. Anthracite, with its low density, strong pollutant interception capacity, large particles, and relatively affordable price, combines the retention properties of quartz sand with the adsorption properties of activated carbon and is commonly used in sewage treatment and oil removal. Activated carbon, with its low density and strong deodorization and decolorization capabilities, is relatively expensive and is generally used in drinking water. Besides its aforementioned benefits, it can also improve the taste of water. However, anthracite is rarely used in drinking water.

Instructions for filling filter media of carbon steel multi-media filter The filter media design for the filter layer of a carbon steel multi-media filter generally requires that the particle size of the lower filter media be smaller than that of the upper filter media to ensure the effectiveness and full utilization of the lower filter media. The density of the upper layer should be small to ensure stratification recovery after backwashing. If the density of the upper layer is small, the filter media of the upper layer will sink to the lower layer after backwashing. Taking a two-layer filter bed as an example, the upper filter media has the largest particles and is composed of lightweight filter media with low density, such as anthracite and activated carbon; the lower filter media has a small particle size and high density, and is generally composed of quartz sand; the upper filter media plays a coarse filtration role, with low head loss under resistance, and the lower filter media plays a fine filtration role with strong sewage interception capacity. In this way, the role of the multi-media filter bed is fully utilized, that is, the characteristics of low head loss and good filtration effect, and the advantages of each medium are fully utilized.
