1. Principle of Multi-media Filter A multi-media filter is a mechanical filter filled with two or more filter media. Common filter media for multi-media filters include anthracite, ceramsite, quartz sand, and activated carbon. When designing the filter media for a multi-media filter's filter layers, particle size requirements must be considered. The particle size of the lower filter layer should be smaller than that of the upper filter layer to ensure the effectiveness and full utilization of the lower filter media. The density of the upper layer should be low to ensure stratification after backwashing. The upper filter media provides coarse filtration, resulting in low resistance and low head loss, while the lower filter media provides fine filtration, offering high pollutant interception. This fully utilizes the different media, resulting in low head loss and excellent filtration performance.
